MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS

SEMAGLUTIDE WEIGHT LOSS

Semaglutide (Wegovy) is the first once-weekly medication in its class that’s FDA-approved to help with chronic weight management. It works best when used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise. The largest clinical trial showed that adults taking semaglutide lost an average of almost 15% of their initial body weight — about 12% more than those who didn’t take the medication. Adolescent clinical trials showed an average weight loss of 16%.

HOW DOES SEMAGLUTIDE WORK?

GLP-1 is an incretin hormone that plays a role in your appetite and digestion. Incretins — hormones released by your digestive tract — are sent out by your body after you’ve eaten a meal. They help lower your blood sugar by triggering insulin release and blocking sugar production. They also slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach (called gastric emptying).

The result of these actions causes you to feel full — lowering your appetite and causing you to lose weight. Medications like GLP-1 agonists are referred to as incretin mimetics since they “mimic” these effects.

MEDICALLY GUIDED WEIGHT LOSS

Our Pretty Faces Atlanta Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program utilizes diet and medical counseling, hormone modulation, appetite suppressants and a mixture of vitamins, minerals and supplements to assist with an approximate 1lb/day weight loss for 30 days.  Sensible low-calorie (non-carbohydrate) meals are designed for the patient, low intensity exercise regimens are introduced, along with diet and meal planning instructions.  Weekly B12 injections are included with the program (8 total). After the initial 30 days portion of the program, the patient continues with our tailored program for the next 30 – 60 days, with the goal of weight stabilizing and a “re-set” of the patient’s metabolism.

For patients with an elevated BMI that still need to decrease their body weight, additional rounds of supervised weight loss can be attempted, however patients must participate in after care and weight stabilization.

The primary goal of our supervised weight loss program is metabolic stabilization, which allows the body to utilize consumed energy more optimally while minimizing long term storage (stop building fat). Meal plans and exercise schedules are tailored for the patient with easy to reach goals and instructions.

Some patients in need of weight loss have specific medical conditions such as Diabetes, Hypercholesterolemia and Hypertension. We have devised programs in conjunction with dietary and lifestyle recommendations (and restrictions) from the American Dietetic Association, the American Heart Association, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Considering your external health is often a reflection of your internal health, it is most important that we tackle both head-on.  We really mean it when we say “We understand your pain!” Every one of our staff members, including our providers, has struggled with weight loss.  It it truly an “up and down” battle.  We have all been there.

In addition to being a Generalist prior to Specialty Clinical and Aesthetics Dermatology training, Dr. Jing Jing has a Dietetics and Nutrition background. She is well suited to design a weight loss plan that can fit your lifestyle, meet your medical needs, and help you reach your optimal metabolic goals.
